Bramble Baskets
The Course
Learn how to harvest and process bramble. We’ll cover a range of basketry techniques including how to start the basket, weave a strong structure, and make the border. By the end of the course you’ll have all the knowledge you need to make a bramble basket from start to finish, and you will view brambles in a whole new light.
The Tutor
Ruby Taylor is a is an artist maker working with plant fibres and clay. She is also a qualified teacher with 20 years’ experience. Ruby is appreciated for her ability to teach the techniques of basketry and pottery with clarity, patience and humour. Her courses are popular for their relaxed and inclusive atmosphere and she regularly runs courses in Sussex woodland as Native Hands. From both extensive formal training and her own experimentation, Ruby has a breadth and depth of knowledge.
She was a team member of East Sussex Archaeology and Museums Partnership (2009 – 2016), where she taught ancient craft and technology to all ages, including the construction of prehistoric-style dwellings. She regularly delivers training and courses to Heritage and Cultural organisations including English Heritage (Stonehenge), Historic England, Pitt Rivers Museum and Sussex Past.
As a practising artist, Ruby was commissioned by Royal Botanic Gardens Kew (Wakehurst) to make large scale, site specific sculptures in 2014 and 2017.

Fee & Refreshments
£90 per person, to include tuition, teas and coffees. If you have any dietary requirements please let us know in advance. The Museum cafe will be open or you may wish to bring a packed lunch.
